Omar won the first place and a prize of $3,000 in the Monte Jade Innovation Competition 2019

Omar Faruk Emon, mechanical engineering Ph.D. student at The University of Akron, won first place and a prize of $3,000 in the Monte Jade Innovation Competition 2019 in the Future Tire category. Sponsored by the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association and Maxxis Tires, this national competition promotes innovation among college students in the fields of science and technology.

Omar successfully defended a Ph.D. proposal in Nov 22 2019

Congratulation!

Title: Ionic liquid-based 3D printed soft pressure sensors and their applications.

Now he is under ABD and we call him a Ph.D. candidate, not a student. He plans to have a Ph.D. defense in spring 2020. He has published several papers and plans to submit more manuscripts soon.

Jae-Won came back in Aug 2019 upon the completion of his sabbatical in Korea; received a NSF STTR award working with eSens

Jae-Won received ~100K to conduct on a NSF STTR project on smart insoles. The project starts in June 2019 and ends in May 2020. He is a co-founder of eSens.

A proposal has been selected for presentation at CenTiRe

A proposal titled “3D printed smart tires for health monitoring” has been invited for presentation at the CenTiRe Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meetig and consideration for funding.

The presentation is scheduled in June 12 in Blacksburg, VA.

Jae-Won will have professional development leave 2018F – 2019S in Korea

Dr. Choi will be out of country in 2018F – 2019S for his professional development leave.  He will stay in Pukyong National University, Busan, Korea as a visiting professor in the first half and Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) – Daegyong Regional Branch.

Faez successfully defended a Ph.D. proposal

Congratulations!  Faez had a Ph.D. proposal defense in March 21st, 2018.  He plans to have a Ph.D. defense in Fall 2018.  His thesis title is “Development of Conformal Additive Manufacturing Process and Its Applications.” In his talk, algorithm to realize conformal 3D printing has been discussed.
